Special Needs and LLN Reasonable Adjustment Surf Life Saving NT recognises that students participating in training courses may have varying learning styles and support requirements. These may include but are not limited to students with language‚ literacy and/or numeracy concerns‚ or abilities. Students with any special needs are requested to contact us prior to registering for a course to discuss suitable arrangements. Participants will need to demonstrate various first aid techniques such as administering an EpiPen, Asthma Puffer with Spacer and trauma management including bandaging, supporting and splinting. Participants will also need to demonstrate CPR on training manikins – adult, child and infant in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. To meet the unit of competency, the participant needs to demonstrate at least two (2) minutes of CPR on an adult and infant manikin on the floor. Please note as of 1st September 2022 the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) have advised Registered Training Organisations that training and assessment activities undertaken during First Aid and CPR courses will revert to pre-COVID conditions. This means learners will be required to demonstrate rescue breathing techniques on manikins and not simulate such skills to the side of the manikin as previously allowed during the pandemic. Learners will not have the opportunity to request an exemption from providing rescue breaths if they wish to gain a competent result in the Unit of Competency and/or qualification. Assessment is scenario based.
