Community Surf Rescue Certificate

SRC

The Surf Rescue Certificate is the introduction to being a qualified life saver.
This is NOT suitable for Surf Lifesaving SA/NT Members as they need a patrolling specific Surf Rescue Certificate.

The Community Surf Rescue Certificate is a one day course suitable for anyone over the age of 13. Candidates will be taught and assessed on performing rescues, identifying dangers, resuscitation, basic first aid and supervision skills. There will also be a 100m Run, 100m Swim, 100m Run which must be performed in less than 5 minutes and a theory workbook to be completed.
This certificate is recognised by the Department of Education and Child Development (DECD) as a minimum requirement to supervise children around open water aquatic activities.

Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • (Full course only) Current First Aid Certificate

Lifesaving Pool Bronze Medallion - (This is equivalent to RLSA Bronze Medallion)

POOL BM

The Lifesaving Pool Award aims to teach emergency rescue techniques, swimming and survival skills, basic spinal management techniques and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Units of competency:

HLTAID001 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
SISCAQU002 - Perform Basic Water Rescues 

This course would suit clients requiring RLSA Bronze Medallion:
• As a minimum qualification to provide supervision at a low patronage pool
• To develop a pathway to a Pool Life Guard Certificate

Perform Basic Water Rescues

BWR

This course describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to perform basic water rescues in small - medium indoor or outdoor aquatic centres.

Pool Lifeguard Full Course

PLGF

The Pool Lifeguard Skill Set (SISSS00111) course aims to teach you emergency rescue techniques, swimming skills and basic spinal management techniques as well as the finer points of pool lifeguarding. Candidates of this program will receive comprehensive training in aquatic emergency care, emergency management, oxygen resuscitation and pool surveillance. Successful candidates will have the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. It is also recommended for those involved in aquatic exercise, swim coaching, aquatic excursions or who have responsibility for the supervision and safety of people in and around swimming pools.
 
The Pool Lifeguard Skill Set (SISSS00111) must be updated annually if used as a professional qualification.

PUAEME001B - Provide emergency care
PUAEME003C - Administer oxygen in an emergency situation
SISCAQU002 - Perform basic water rescues
SISCAQU006 - Supervise clients in aquatic locations

Prerequisites:
  • Hold a current Provide First Aid certificate (HLTAID003) - (proof of First Aid qualification must be prior to the commencement of the course)

The Pool Lifeguard Award must be updated annually if used as a professional qualification.

Provide First Aid In Remote Situations

REMOTE

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to provide first aid response and emergency life support to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation.The unit applies to workers who may be required to prepare for and provide a first aid response in locations beyond the reach of timely medical assistance.
