Introduction:

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus in an electricity supply industry (ESI) environment. This does not include overhead lines and underground cables.

It includes the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of live LV panel rescue equipment, and how it applies to ESI workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid requirements.

Requirements:

Prerequisite unit requirements:

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
or
UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

NOTE: Those holding an existing ESI or Electrotechnology qualification or equivalent meet the prerequisite unit requirements.

Learning Outcomes:

  • This course provides candidates with the skills and knowledge to:
  • Prepare to perform rescue procedures from live LV panel
  • Carry out rescue from live LV panel
  • Complete the LV panel rescue procedure

Learning Methods:

This course is a 4-hour face to face session which includes written responses‚ demonstration of tasks and role play/scenarios/initiatives.

  • Workplace requirements for the rescue are identified and confirmed
  • Electricity isolation point is identified
  • Rescue equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE) is obtained and inspected in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Situation is assessed, and rescue response is activated in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Casualty is removed from the live LV panel in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Casualty is assessed in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Incident site is secured and entry controlled in accordance with workplace requirements
