The Community Surf Rescue Certificate is a flexible course that is offered by Surf Life Saving SA to members of the Community. The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic surf awareness and rescue skills. ‚Äč

This is NOT suitable for Surf Lifesaving SA/NT Members as they need a patrolling specific Surf Rescue Certificate.



 

Introduction:

Candidates will be taught and assessed on performing rescues, identifying dangers, signals and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). There will also be a 100m Run, 100m Swim, 100m Run which must be performed in less than 5 minutes. This course includes two E-Learning Online Assessments which cover basic water rescues and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This certificate is recognised by the Department of Education in South Australia as a minimum requirement to supervise children around open water aquatic activities.

Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment

  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues

Surf Life Saving SA/NT recognises that students participating in its training courses may have special needs. These may include but are not limited to students with language, literacy and/or numeracy problems, or disabilities. Students with special needs should contact us prior to enrolment to discuss their needs.

Assessment

Participants will be assessed individually and in group activities. Assessment is through demonstration, presentation and application of all elements of competency in the workplace. Participants will be required to complete activities that may include role-plays, oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations and performing scenarios.
 
Participants must also be able to complete the following physical elements:
  • Complete an unaided ‘run (100m), swim (100m), run (100m) in five (5) minutes or less.
  • Complete five (5) successful rounds of CPR on an adult manikin on the floor.
  • Complete five (5) successful rounds of CPR on an infant manikin on a firm surface.
  • Perform rescues with and without equipment.
  • Demonstrate hand signals.
